Questions
Which quilt blocks can I choose?
Log cabin: a center square plus rounds of logs, light on two sides and dark on two, set in light-and-dark diamonds; blocks from 6" to 16", with 2 1/2" logs from a jelly roll. Half-square triangles: made two at a time from squares cut finished size + 7/8", set in zigzag bands; charm packs and layer cakes work, jelly rolls use 2" stitch-and-flip units. Rail fence: two to five rails per block, strip-pieced when that saves fabric, set in the classic zigzag. 4-patch: two print and two background squares per block; whole 5" charm squares make 9" blocks. Churn dash: corner half-square triangles, side bars and a center square on a 3 x 3 grid; one layer cake square gives the prints for one 12" block.
What seam allowance do you use?
A 1/4" seam allowance throughout. Every cut size in the pattern already includes it, so cut exactly what the chart says.
How wide is "width of fabric"?
We count 42" of usable width (WOF) after the selvages are trimmed, which is what most quilt patterns assume. Backing panels are counted at 40" usable, to leave room for the seams. Fat quarters are counted as 18" x 21", jelly roll strips as 2 1/2" x 42".
How do you round yardage?
We add up the strips each fabric needs, add 10% for straightening, shrinkage and one mistake, then round up to the next 1/8 yard. Precut counts are exact, and we tell you how many packs that is and how many pieces will be left over.
My quilt came out a little bigger or smaller than I asked. Why?
A quilt has to be a whole number of blocks. We pick the count closest to your size and show the true finished size, and the difference, in the free preview, so you can change the block size or border before you buy.
Can I use precuts?
Yes: fat quarters, jelly rolls (2 1/2" strips), charm packs (5" squares) and layer cakes (10" squares). If your block size is too big for your precut, the free preview switches to the nearest size that fits and tells you. Log cabin logs are too long for charm squares, so a charm-pack log cabin is worked out in yardage instead. Background, border, backing and binding are always yardage.
Should I cut everything at once?
Cut and sew one block first and measure it. The pattern tells you the size it should be. If it is off, adjust your seam before cutting the rest.
What if there is a mistake in the math?
The pattern is calculated, not guessed, so the same inputs always give the same pattern. If you find a math error, email us within 14 days of purchase: we fix it and re-send your pattern, or refund you in full.
Do I get a PDF?

Do I pay before the preview?
No. The layout, finished size and yardage are free. You pay $19.99 only if you want the cutting chart, block diagram, assembly steps and PDF.
